should be limited to 200 words and convey themain points of the paper-outline, results and conclusionor the significance of the results. Introduction should give the reasons for doing the work.Detailed review of the literature is not necessary. Theintroduction should preferably conclude with a finalparagraph stating concisely and clearly the aims andobjectives of your investigation.Materials and Methods should include a brief technicaldescription of the methodology adopted while a detaileddescription is required if the methods are new. Results should contain observations on experiment doneillustrated by tables and figures. Use well known statisticaltests in preference to obscure ones. Discussion must not recapitulate results but should relatethe author's experiments to other work on the subject andgive their conclusions. All tables and figures must be cited sequentially in thetext. Figures should be abbreviated to Fig., except in thebeginning of a sentence when the word Figure should bewritten out in full. The figures should be drawn on a good quality tracing/white paper with black ink with the legends provided ona separate sheet. Photographs should be black and whiteon a glossy sheet with sufficient contrast. References should be kept to a minimum and listed inalphabetical order. Personal communication andunpublished data should not be included in the referencelist. Unpublished papers accepted for publication may beincluded in the list by designating the journal followedby "in press" in parentheses in the reference list. The listof reference at the end of the text should be in thefollowing format. 1. Witkamp, M. and Olson, J. S. 1963. Breakdown of confined and non-confined Oak Litter.Oikos. 14:138-

Photoinhibition induced alterations in energy transfer process in phycobilisomes of PS II in the cyanobacterium, Spirulina platensis.

Exposure of algae or plants to irradiance from above the light saturation point of photosynthesis is known as high light stress. This high light stress induces various responses including photoinhibition of the photosynthetic apparatus. The degree of photoinhibition could be clearly determined by measuring the parameters such as absorption and fluorescence of chromoproteins. In cyanobacteria an...

Photosynthetic Electron Transfer in Preparations of the Cyanobacterium Spirulina platensis.

Electron transfer activity in intact trichomes of Spirulina platensis (Nordst.) Geitl. can be observed with either CO(2) or methylviologen as the Hill acceptor. Ferricyanide cannot penetrate the intact trichomes, but photoreduction of this oxidant can be observed when mediated by lipophilic oxidants such as p-phenylenediamine or 2,5-dimethyl-p-benzoquinone. The insensitivity of these reactions ...

Changes of the photosynthetic apparatus in Spirulina cyanobacterium by sodium stress.

Spirulina platensis trichomes grown in Zarrouks medium having total Na+ concentration as 0.14 M when transferred to fresh Zarrouks medium containing enhanced level of Na+ ions equal to 0.86 M showed 30% more accumulation of Na+ intracellularly as compared to the control. An inhibition of photosystem II activity to almost 66% was observed. Also due to this exposure to high Na+, the room temperat...

STUDIES ON THE ALTERATIONS IN PHOTOSYNTHETIC ELECTRON TRANSPORT AND SPECTRAL PROPERTIES OF THE CYANOBACTERIUM, SPIRULINA PLATENSIS UNDER COPPER STRESS Rajya Lakshmi.C, Jyothsna,P. and Murthy, S.D.S

ABSTRACT: Spirulina platensis is a filamentous and photosynthetic blue green algae. Heavy metals are toxic when their levels in the environment exceed. They cause damage to living organisms including plants. Prolonged incubation (48 h) of Spirulina platensis cells in the presence of copper (Cu) (20 and 80 μM) caused inhibition of Photosystem (PS) II catalyzed electron transport activity (H2O→pB...
